Bison Transport Recognizes Safe Drivers!
We are each responsible for our own safety and the safety of others. Bison Transport is committed to your safety and the safety of our Drivers and those that we share the road with. We are extremely grateful for the role you play and the responsibility you take in ensuring that we are the safest industry. Each year at this time, Bison recognizes Drivers that have completed milestones of consecutive years or miles of safe driving. To our Safe Driver Award recipients, we praise your demonstrated commitment to safety as you are the best 'Examples of Excellence' our industry has to offer. These awards also recognize the support of your families and loved ones that depend on you to come home safe.
Drivers are recognized at the consecutive safe driver milestones of 125,000 miles, 250,000 miles, 500,000 miles, 750,000 miles, 1,000,000 miles and for the first time in Bison's history, 1,250,000 miles milestone. Accomplishments for City Drivers are based on years of safe driving. The consecutive safe driver milestones are 1 year, 2 years, 4 years, 6 years, 8 years and 10 years. A realignment of years equivalent to miles has been made this year to more accurately reflect accomplishments. The 8 years milestone is now considered to be the equivalent to the 1,000,000 miles and 10 years is the equivalent to the 1,250,000 miles.
Drivers achieving these important milestones receive a diamond shaped glass award with their name, number of miles or years and date of award etched in the glass. In addition to the glass award those achieving 1,000,000 or 8-year milestones will receive a custom designed 10kt gold ring. For those achieving the 1,250,000 miles or 10 year milestone a diamond is added to the gold ring they had received at the 1,000,000 mile or 8 years mark. For each additional 250,000 miles or 2 years of consecutive safe driving an additional diamond is added. Drivers can have a decal bearing their name and safe driving miles or year category placed on the unit they operate. This allows the achievements to be seen by the general public, fellow Professional Drivers as well as customers.
The Safety Department has changed the criteria used to determine how the Safe Driver Awards are presented. Up to this year all safe driver miles were calculated for the year starting from July 1 and ending June 30 of the following year. Should a Driver reach a milestone during the year but also be involved in disqualifying preventable after the milestone was reached, the Driver would have been disqualified from achieving the award. Going forward, Drivers will be recognized for their milestone as they are reached. We will not use July 1 to June 30 as being the period for award calculations. In 2006, the awards will be formally presented in each region on a quarterly basis instead of annually at the Christmas Dinner, Dance and Awards. Watch for news on dates, times and locations these quarterly award celebrations will occur.
Skill enhancement opportunities are always available to all Drivers through our Tatonka program. The program was developed to provide Drivers with necessary skills to be successful in negotiating the challenges that occur everyday, in attaining Safe Driver Awards and in achieving the level of reward payable in the Safe Driving Reward Program.
