Garth Pitzel - Director Safety & Driver Development

For Immediate Release - 26 March 2007

Bison Transport is crowned North America's safest "large fleet" - wins prestigious TCA safety award for second consecutive year.

TCA Award

Safety remains the most critical aspect of highway transportation in North America. Bison Transport has for the second consecutive year been named the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) Grand Prize Winner of the National Fleet Safety Award in the category of fleets operating over 25 million miles annually. The Grand Prize Award is based on stringent safety criteria, safety training programs and verifiable safety performance. Bison Transport also placed first in the TCA Division 6, measuring the safety performance of all fleets operating over 100 million miles annually. The award was presented to Bison Transport at TCA's Annual Convention in Las Vegas on March 6th, 2007.

"The most important and most effective element of our safety program has been our ability to harness the pride and ownership values of each of our people," said Vice President of Operations, Robert Penner. "This award was earned by each and every member of our team. To be recognized by industry and by our peers for our safety and performance is a validation of our collective efforts. This recognition will go a long way towards providing the energy that we will need to sustain our efforts to remain the safest fleet in North America."

The Truckload Carrier's Association applauded Bison's philosophy of, WE DO WHAT IS RIGHT! "Bison Transport is safe and profitable in conjunction with their employees and not at the expense of them. They do this so at the end of the day, they have a safe fleet, delivering safe loads on safe public roadways."

Bison Transport has operated since 1969 and is one of Canada's largest providers of truckload transportation, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba with terminals across Canada. Bison operates one of the most modern fleets on the road with over 900 tractors and employs more than 1500 people. This award from the TCA stands alongside other awards and recognition, such as the U.S. Environment Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay Environmental Excellence Award. The award recognizes freight industry leaders that have made significant contributions to protecting the environment through their participation in the SmartWay Partnership.
