Bison Transport announces on-line greenhouse gas-emissions (GHG) calculator to demonstrate the benefit of using Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs).
Tuesday, November 03, 2009 - With a strategic focus on efficiency and sustainability, Bison Transport leads the industry in the use of Long Combination Vehicles (LCV) in North America. Also known as Turnpike Doubles, LCVs have been proven to reduce GHG emissions by as much as 40% when compared to single trailer over-the-road operations.
Bison Transport today unveiled a GHG calculator on its web-site that estimates total carbon emissions of
single trailer and LCV transport operations for a given length of haul. The calculator is located at

LCVs combine technology, efficiency and reduce GHG emissions by 40%. Bison's LCV Division has grown significantly over recent years, particularly in Western Canada. Today they operate over 15 Million miles annually, generating cost savings in fuel and driver wages.
In addition to the Western Canada turnpike operation, Bison is also a part of the Ontario LCV Pilot Program that is currently in place.
The GHG calculator is a continuation of Bison's Sustainable Transportation strategy which also includes initiatives such as a speed reduction policy, idle reduction technologies in all tractors, fuel efficient tractors, trailer side skirts, and providing industry leading fuel efficiency training to all of the Bison fleet of Drivers.
