Accounts Payable Clerk
The Accounts Payable Clerk is an excellent introduction to our business and the accounting field. The Accounts Payable Clerk is responsible for Accounts Payable duties such as processing invoices for payment, creating cheque and EFT payment batches, reconciling vendor statements, processing driver expense envelopes for reimbursement, backup reception, auditing toll charges and other duties as assigned.
Accounts Payable Clerks must have the ability to thrive in a multi-tasking environment, be detail oriented and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Do you have any advice to candidates applying to Bison Transport?
Plenty! Have an ownership mentality with everything you do - it works in our business, and our industry and especially well for the people who practice it. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty or ask questions, it's the way you learn. Understand that the learning process will be difficult, but nothing worth doing ever comes easy. Challenge yourself and others around you to excel - status quo should not be an option. Be passionate and don't underestimate the value of common sense. Consider how you would like to be treated when dealing with others, inside and outside of the organization. Don't just be open to change – look for it and embrace it. Have some fun and take pride in the business.
How would you describe Bison Transport to potential candidates?
Progressive company with a great growth story creates an environment for people to succeed, if they choose to embrace it. Bison is a people/achievement friendly organization in an industry that is not necessarily known for that type of culture. Much of our work is fast paced, transactional and very customer oriented – have to want to work in that environment. We are extremely safety oriented – success does not come by taking unnecessary risks or shortcuts in terms of responsible running of the business and each individual truck. The majority of our employees and contractors drive truck for a living – we need to be able to relate to, work with and many times motivate the many different types of people that choose this role.
How has your career progressed? Can you give us an overview in one minute?
Hired in May, 1993. From May '93 – June '95 I was in Dispatch/Customer Service roles (MB Outbound, Western Canada, East Local, US). Then from June '95 – June '96 I was promoted to Customer Service Supervisor (US, East). From June '96 – Nov '98 I was promoted to Customer Service Manager. Nov '98 – Jan '06 I became Director, Operations (responsibilities of ABL, Customs, Refrigerated Division folded in during tenure). Jan '06 – present I am in the role of VP Western Operations (moved to Calgary to run expanding Western Operations).
So I would say it has progressed quickly, with the company growing approximately 10x during this same timeframe. I was added to the Management Team sometime in 96 and to the Executive in 01, which increased my involvement and perspective on the business. The majority of my experience is in the Operational areas, but the expanded roles have allowed me to participate in decision making across the organization.
