Road conditions across Manitoba have worsened significantly, with a growing number of highway closures, including Highway 75 from Morris to Winnipeg, a key corridor for Canada–US freight. Drivers in the region have been directed to pull over due to unsafe conditions, and we are closely monitoring the situation with improvements expected later this evening as winds ease.

These disruptions may result in transit delays. Please contact your account manager with any questions regarding specific shipments.

Drivers in the area have already used their Right To Decide, and we will cease planning empties with current wind conditions, as travel is unsafe.

— UPDATE — Feb 27, 7:35 am

Significant winter weather warnings remain in effect across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, with impacts expected through tonight.

Alberta is experiencing 15 to 30 cm of snowfall, with the heaviest accumulation in the foothills and Cypress Hills region. Southeastern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba are facing widespread blowing snow, strong winds up to 80 km/h in the Red River Valley, reduced visibility, and the potential for hazardous travel and road closures.

Operational Adjustments

  • Manitoba ↔ Saskatchewan: Transitioning to single trailer operations effective immediately through 06:00 tomorrow due to wind and visibility conditions.
  • Calgary ↔ Regina: Conditions are being closely monitored and may require a shift to single trailer operations.
  • Saskatoon ↔ Edmonton: LCV operations continue at this time.

Safety remains the priority. Speed reductions, temporary holds, and transit delays should be expected as we manage through these conditions. Further updates will be provided as conditions evolve. Please contact your account manager with any shipment-specific questions.

In Alberta, significant snowfall is forecast for the Calgary region beginning this evening, with 15 to 30 cm expected through Friday and reduced visibility likely. A wind warning is also in effect for southern Alberta, with gusts up to 110 km/h. In response, freight under 30,000 lbs is being temporarily held on the Calgary–Regina lane as a targeted safety measure. All other lanes continue operating as planned.

In the Winnipeg region, overnight wind gusts may impact highway stability and visibility, particularly for high-profile equipment, though widespread disruption is not expected at this time.

Environment and Climate Change Canada have also issued alerts for snow squalls and potentially reduced visibility across parts of west‑central Saskatchewan this afternoon and evening. Brief but intense bands of snow are expected, which could reduce visibility to near zero and make travel hazardous along the Saskatoon → Edmonton corridor

This advisory is separate from the previously communicated wind warning affecting southern Alberta.

We will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates if network fluidity is impacted. If you have questions about specific shipments, please contact your Bison account manager.
