— UPDATE | Dec 20, 9:36 am —
Hwy 11 closed again early this morning, Nipagon to Longlac – impacting logistics carriers using this route for travel between ON and MB.
Most recently, Hwy 17 has also closed Terrace Bay to Marathon, which appears to be due to an accident – ETA on opening is pending at this time.
Coming out of closures on both highways for upwards of 36+ hrs, this will continue to impact operations. The impact on Expedited customers should be limited throughout the weekend, as most volume is already on route and trucks will proceed to their destinations once it is safe to do so. For single transit freight, both East and West, expect service impacts that will be communicated to the appropriate teams.
— UPDATE | Dec 19, 1:24 pm —
Highways 17 and 11 have reopened, and Bison drivers in the area are confirming that traffic is now moving on Hwy 17. While real-time confirmation on Hwy 11 is still coming in, ON511 is showing both corridors as open.
As updated ETAs and PTAs are confirmed for drivers who were previously stranded, we will continue to share visibility on any freight impacted by residual backlogs. Eastbound ON/PQ freight includes volume staged from yesterday plus today’s ready freight. Eastbound MB volumes remain constrained, with much of that freight held in AB and SK and limited availability moving through Winnipeg at this time. Both our asset and logistics teams are actively working to secure capacity and support recovery.
— UPDATE | Dec 19, 8:08 am —
Highway 1 east of Winnipeg is currently open, and travel through to Nipigon remains possible at this time. However, Highway 11 is closed between Nipigon and Cochrane, and Highway 17 remains closed from Nipigon to Batchawana Bay, limiting onward movement beyond Nipigon. We will continue to provide visibility on any freight impacts and share updates as conditions evolve throughout the day.
— UPDATE | Dec 18, 4:17 pm —
Manitoba: Hwy 1 East Wpg – Hadashville remains closed. Hwy 75 has just now reopened – we expect limited Southbound departures overnight, with the majority of drivers available tomorrow AM.
Ontario: Hwy 11 and 17 both remain closed East of Nipigon. Travel between Manitoba and Ontario remains at a stand still. Trucks that did make it into ON/PQ have been planned West and will travel as far as conditions allow.
— UPDATE | Dec 18, 7:29 am —
Multiple highway closures are impacting freight movement this morning:
- Ontario: Highway 17 is closed between Nipigon and White River, and Highway 11 is closed between Nipigon and Cochrane. As a result, there is currently no through travel available between Manitoba and Ontario.
- Manitoba: Highway 75 south of Winnipeg to the U.S. border is closed, impacting all southbound freight from Winnipeg and the surrounding area.
Teams are actively monitoring conditions and will provide further updates as routes reopen and impacts become clearer.
— UPDATE | Dec 17, 9:31 am —
Highway 11 is currently closed between Nipigon and Longlac. There is no impact to Bison asset-based operations at this time, as our fleets are operating via Highway 17. Our carrier network may be impacted if using Highway 11 for Manitoba–Ontario movements. We are actively assessing freight impacts and initiating load recovery workflows where required. If you have any questions or need support, please reach out to your Account Manager.
— UPDATE | Dec 10, 7: 45 am —
Highay 17 has opened. We continue to work on generating additional capacity to work through any backlog.
— ORIGINAL POST —
Highway 17 remains closed between Wawa and Batchawana Bay, impacting travel between Ontario and Manitoba. All Bison trucks departing overnight in either direction, up to 0800 tomorrow morning, have been rerouted via Highway 11 to maintain safe movement.
We will reassess road and weather conditions tomorrow morning and adjust routing as needed.
We’re actively working to keep your freight moving. If you have any questions or need support, please reach out to your Account Manager.
