— UPDATE: Mar 13, 7:37 am —

Highway 1 in Saskatchewan reopened yesterday afternoon; however, Travel Not Recommended (TNR) status remained in place through much of the evening as road conditions continued to improve. Conditions have now stabilized, and as of this morning we have resumed LCV operations across all Prairie lanes.

As a result of the prolonged closure and reduced operating conditions, the following freight backlog currently exists across the network:

  • Calgary – Regina: 11 loads
  • Calgary – Winnipeg: 63 loads
  • Winnipeg – Calgary: 56 loads
  • Regina – Calgary: 15 loads

Our Driver Manager team is actively working to secure additional drivers to cover extra LCV shifts this weekend. These additional resources will help accelerate freight movement and reduce the backlog as quickly as possible while we rebalance the network.

We will continue to monitor progress closely and provide further updates as the backlog improves.

— UPDATE: Mar 12, 2:19 pm —

Calgary and the surrounding area received 10 to 20 cm of snow in the past 18 hours, with significantly higher totals west of the city. Slushy and icy road conditions are slowing traffic and operations, and customers may experience delays to both loaded and empty equipment as the team works to recover.

— UPDATE: Mar 12, 1:07 pm —

Highway 1 west of Regina remains closed currently, with the closure currently in place between Swift Current and Rush Lake due to ongoing winter driving conditions. As a result, we remain unable to operate both LCV and single trailer movements on the Calgary–Regina corridor. We are beginning to see some sections of Highway 1 update from closed to Travel Not Recommended (TNR), which indicates that conditions are gradually improving in parts of the corridor. Our team continues to closely monitor highway status and weather conditions and will be prepared to resume operations on the lane once the highway fully reopens and conditions allow.

All other Prairie LCV corridors remain operational and continue to move freight currently.

We will provide a further update as conditions change.

— ORIGINAL POST —

Environment Canada has issued weather warnings across parts of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba today, including strong winds and reduced visibility in areas along key Prairie corridors. Current highway conditions in Saskatchewan have deteriorated this morning. Highway 1 west of Regina is currently closed between Gull Lake and Rush Lake due to poor winter driving conditions. As a result, we are unable to operate both LCVs and single-trailer movements on our Calgary–Regina lanes until conditions improve and the highway reopens.

At this time, all other Prairie LCV lanes remain operational and are continuing to move as planned.

From a backlog perspective, following the previous weather event, nearly all lanes have been cleared.

The team will continue to closely monitor weather and highway conditions throughout the day and will provide further updates should there be any changes to network operations.
