What Shippers Need to Know About CVSA International Roadcheck 2026
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) International Roadcheck returns May 12 to 14, 2026. This annual 72-hour enforcement initiative brings intensified commercial vehicle inspections across Canada, the United States, and Mexico, with inspectors conducting thousands of roadside and weigh station checks throughout the event.
During Roadcheck, enforcement officers primarily complete the North American Standard Level I Inspection, a 37-step review that examines both driver compliance and vehicle safety. This includes credentials, hours of service, and mechanical components such as brakes, tires, lights, suspension, steering, and cargo securement.
For 2026, CVSA has announced two specific focus areas:
- Driver Focus: Electronic Logging Device (ELD) tampering, falsification, or manipulation
- Vehicle Focus: Cargo securement, including worn or damaged straps, chains, tie-downs, and unstable loads
Expected Market Impact for Shippers
Historically, Roadcheck can create temporary capacity pressure across North America as some carriers reduce mileage, avoid operating during inspection periods, or experience delays at scales and roadside checkpoints. This can lead to softer tender acceptance, tighter spot capacity, higher rates, and longer transit times during and shortly after the event.
In 2026, these impacts may be more noticeable as capacity remains tight in several markets while produce season increases demand across the Southeastern and Southwestern United States.
