–UPDATE: Feb 23, 10:46am–
Weather and highway conditions allowed full LCV operations across the network throughout the weekend. To support recovery efforts, 31 LCV drivers added an extra shift, providing meaningful incremental capacity. While this helped stabilize the network, overall recovery progress was limited by sustained customer volume, particularly on key long-haul corridors.
We are actively partnering with our Brokerage team to source third-party carrier support, with primary focus on the Calgary ↔ Winnipeg corridor to accelerate recovery.
The greatest exposure remains on the Calgary–Winnipeg and Winnipeg–Calgary lanes, which continue to be prioritized. Freight is moving by established priority tiers, supported by both internal capacity and external carriers, as we work to normalize the network as quickly as possible.

–UPDATE: Feb 20, 8:12am–
Icy highway conditions in Saskatchewan continue to impact operations this morning, particularly in the Balgonie to Broadview corridor. More than 10 drivers utilized their Right To Decide overnight due to safety concerns, and speeds remain reduced in affected areas. Safety remains the priority as teams closely monitor conditions.
Backlog recovery is trending in the right direction, with most lanes showing meaningful improvement since yesterday. A small number of Saskatchewan-origin lanes experienced temporary increases due to icy conditions and reduced trailer configurations, but overall network fluidity continues to improve.
We will continue prioritizing freight accordingly and monitoring road conditions closely. Further updates will follow as recovery progresses.
–UPDATE: Feb 19, 8:00 am–
As of 08:00 this morning, we are resuming LCV operations across the entire network. With conditions improving, we will begin moving freight in a prioritized sequence to ensure the most critical shipments are recovered first.
Freight prioritization will be as follows:
Tier 1 (First to move)
- Expedited
- Service Alert
- Non-dry CPGD
- Perishable freight
Tier 2
- Dry CPGD freight
- Temperature-controlled freight
Tier 3
- Dry loads
Teams are actively working through the backlog and will continue to monitor conditions closely. Further updates will be provided as recovery progresses.
–UPDATE: Feb 18, 3:23 pm–
Highway conditions between Alberta and Saskatchewan have improved sufficiently to safely resume LCV operations effective immediately. Departures are now moving in both directions on the AB–SK corridor, and we will begin working through any accumulated backlog.
Operations between Manitoba and Saskatchewan remain grounded. There has been little to no improvement in visibility or road surface conditions across that corridor, and Travel Not Recommended advisories persist. For reference, below are current highway condition images from the SK and MB 511 websites to illustrate the situation on the ground.
LCV and single trailer operations between MB and SK will remain suspended until conditions materially improve and advisories are lifted. We will continue to actively monitor updates and provide further communication as soon as movement can safely resume.
–UPDATE: Feb 18, 8:48 am–
Highway conditions west of Winnipeg have deteriorated significantly, with expanding Travel Not Recommended advisories, reduced visibility, and blowing snow creating unsafe operating conditions.
Effective immediately, all operations between Winnipeg and Saskatchewan are suspended, including both LCV and single trailer movements. No departures will move in either direction on this corridor until visibility, road surface conditions, and highway advisories return to safe operating thresholds.
Delays and backlog accumulation should be expected while the corridor remains closed. We will continue to closely monitor provincial highway reports and provide further updates as conditions improve.
–UPDATE: Feb 18, 7:22 am–
We are currently seeing significant weather-related impacts across the Prairie network, with Travel Not Recommended advisories covering much of Saskatchewan and deteriorating conditions extending into southwestern Manitoba.
Saskatchewan
Heavy snowfall of 25 to 35 cm in the southeast, combined with wind gusts up to 80 km/h, is creating blowing snow and near-zero visibility. Closures remain possible. Western regions continue to experience poor visibility due to blowing snow, though winds are expected to ease later today.
Manitoba
Southern and western areas are receiving 15 to 25 cm of snow, with localized totals near 30 cm. Blowing snow and reduced visibility persist, particularly in the southwest. Snow is expected to taper Thursday morning, but hazardous travel conditions and potential closures remain likely today.
Alberta (Edmonton Region)
Extreme cold warnings remain in effect, with wind chills near -40. While snowfall has diminished, severe cold continues to present operational risk for equipment and drivers.
Operational Update
LCV operations remain suspended across the Prairie network this morning. Single trailer operations continue. We are monitoring conditions closely and are hopeful to resume LCV service between Alberta and Saskatchewan later today if visibility improves. LCV movement between Saskatchewan and Manitoba is unlikely today given current highway advisories.
Transit times will remain extended, and further delays should be anticipated until sustained improvements are confirmed.
We will continue to monitor highway conditions and Environment Canada updates and provide further communication as the situation evolves. Please contact your account manager with any questions regarding specific shipments.
–ORIGINAL POST–
A winter storm system moving west to east across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba is creating significant operational challenges across our Prairie network. Heavy snowfall, blowing snow, drifting, and reduced visibility are impacting major corridors including Highways 1, 2, 3, and 16. Conditions are expected to continue through mid-week.
Effective immediately:
- All Prairie LCV lanes have been converted to single trailer operations
- No LCV dispatches will occur until further notice
- Single trailer operations will remain in place until highway and visibility conditions return to safe operating levels
This proactive step prioritizes driver safety while allowing us to maintain service continuity where possible under reduced capacity.
What to expect:
- Extended transit times on interprovincial lanes
- Temporary capacity constraints
- Possible backlog development if conditions persist through Wednesday and Thursday
Our operations team is actively monitoring provincial highway advisories and conditions in real time. LCV deployment will be reassessed once snowfall tapers and corridor conditions materially improve.
We encourage customers with freight moving across Prairie interline and long-haul corridors to anticipate potential delays. Please contact your account manager with any questions regarding specific shipments.
