Current Conditions (This Morning)

  • Western Saskatchewan is now under Travel Not Recommended, resulting in active delays on the Edmonton–Saskatoon corridor
  • Early indicators suggest reduced highway capacity and slower transit speeds are already impacting network fluidity

Alberta Impact (Today through Thursday)

Environment Canada has issued a warning for central and southern Alberta:

  • Heavy snow (10–25 cm, locally 30+ cm) expected through Thursday night
  • Snow beginning late this morning in foothills, spreading eastward this evening
  • Precipitation may begin as rain before transitioning to snow
  • Blowing snow and poor visibility expected tonight into Thursday morning

Operational Impact:

  • Deteriorating conditions on Calgary–Edmonton eastbound corridors
  • Increased risk of delays and reduced linehaul speeds
  • Potential for LCV restrictions depending on severity and visibility

Saskatchewan Impact (Overnight into Thursday)

  • Rapid shift from mild weather to winter storm conditions overnight
  • Snow expected across most of southern Saskatchewan, with variable and uncertain accumulation bands
  • Freezing rain risk overnight, particularly from the U.S. border up to the Trans-Canada corridor

Operational Impact:

  • Regina–Winnipeg corridor remains high risk
  • Uncertainty in snowfall bands creates planning volatility
  • Potential for rapid deterioration in road conditions overnight into Thursday morning

Manitoba Impact (Overnight into Thursday)

  • System expected to arrive overnight with mixed precipitation

Key concerns:

  • Freezing rain risk along and south of the Trans-Canada corridor, including the Red River Valley
  • Western and central Manitoba expecting 4–8 cm of snow

Operational Impact:

  • High risk of poor traction and unsafe highway conditions
  • Likely LCV restrictions or conversion to singles
  • Elevated risk of delays into and out of Winnipeg

Network Risk Summary

  • Immediate impact: Edmonton–Saskatoon corridor delays already underway
  • Primary risk corridor: Regina ↔ Winnipeg (snow + freezing rain)
  • Secondary escalation: Alberta corridors deteriorating through the day
  • High likelihood of:
    • LCV restrictions
    • Conversion to singles
    • Network imbalance and missed connections

We will continue to monitor and provide updates as this system develops. Please plan proactively and prioritize safety and service continuity as conditions deteriorate across the network.
