— UPDATE: May 15, 8:10 am —
Following yesterday’s significant weather impacts across the Prairie network, strong wind conditions continue this morning across portions of Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Current Weather Conditions
Saskatchewan
- Westerly wind gusts up to 90 km/h are expected across southeast Saskatchewan through late Friday morning and early afternoon.
Manitoba
- Westerly winds with gusts up to 90 km/h are expected across southwest Manitoba and the western Red River Valley through late this afternoon.
Currently, we are planning LCV operations on all Prairie lanes this morning. However, loads weighing under 25,000 lbs will remain impacted between Saskatchewan and Manitoba until wind conditions improve and safe operating conditions return.
Our teams continue to monitor conditions closely and will adjust operations as required throughout the day.
We expect some continued service delays today as we work through the backlog created by yesterday’s weather event while maintaining safe operating practices.
–ORIGINAL POST —
Please be advised that significant weather conditions across the Prairies are expected to impact operations throughout the day today. Environment Canada has issued wind warnings across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, with sustained winds reaching 70 km/h and gusts ranging from 90–110 km/h depending on the region.
Regional Impacts
Alberta
- Northwest wind gusts of 90–100 km/h expected throughout the day.
- Winds are forecasted to gradually weaken later this evening.
Saskatchewan
- Widespread westerly winds of 70 km/h with gusts up to 110 km/h.
- Conditions expected from early morning through Thursday evening.
Manitoba
- Southwestern Manitoba will experience strong southerly winds this morning followed by severe westerly winds this afternoon.
- Gusts are expected to reach up to 90 km/h.
- Some areas may also experience reduced visibility due to blowing dust.
Due to these conditions, we anticipate operational challenges moving lighter-weight freight, particularly shipments under 25,000 lbs. We have already had multiple drivers utilize their RTD authority to safely haul single trailers rather than operating full LCV configurations. As safety remains our top priority, some delays and service disruptions should be expected throughout the Prairie network today as dispatch and drivers make real-time operational decisions based on road and weather conditions.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work through these conditions safely.
