A major winter storm has begun to head across the US Midwest today, bringing high winds and blizzard conditions through the weekend & into Monday. Affected regions are Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Chicagoland, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.
Wind speeds are reported to peak around 70 mph in spots across the region, with potential whiteout conditions.
Reports say Central Wisconsin could get 2ft of snow.
The Ohio turnpike has banned the travel of commercial trucks carrying empty 53ft trailers until midnight tonight due to wind conditions reaching 60-70 mph. This is the main interstate our drivers delivering in Streetsboro, OH, would use to travel up to Michigan.
We are working to get messages to all our drivers on the road in these regions to ensure they check the latest road and weather conditions before and during their trips.
Drivers on the road may decide that it is unsafe to continue with loaded or empty trailers, especially with wind conditions that high. We should expect delays today and through the weekend as the storm passes.
