Winter weather is expected to create intermittent transportation impacts mid-week, with the greatest risk to freight moving through the Midwest, Northeast, and Plains regions.
Highest Risk Window
Thursday, December 18 through Saturday, December 20
Regions Most Impacted
Midwest to Northeast corridors and long-haul Plains routes
Primary Operational Risks
Reduced highway speeds, weather-related congestion, and increased dwell, particularly on early morning appointments.
Midwest and Northeast
Key lanes include IL, WI, OH, IA into PA, NY, and New England.
Conditions are expected to include snow, freezing temperatures, and wind-driven slowdowns. Overnight and early morning hours carry the highest risk, with potential for reduced speeds and increased facility dwell.
Southeast and Ohio Valley
Key lanes include KY, TN, VA, NC into OH, IN, and PA, as well as GA and NC into the Midwest.
Impacts are expected to be lower but may include rapid overnight temperature drops, isolated early morning icing, and metro congestion from Friday into early Sunday.
Plains and Long-Haul Midwest
Key lanes include SD, NE, and KS into the Midwest and East.
High winds and winter driving conditions may impact long-haul transit speeds during the Thursday to Saturday window.
We will continue to monitor conditions closely and communicate as needed should impacts escalate. If you have any questions about your freight, please contact your Account Manager.
