— UPDATE | Dec 12, 11:00am —
Our weather-related backlog has now been cleared across the network, with only a handful of Calgary to Winnipeg loads still in motion.
Extreme cold in Alberta and Saskatchewan is creating equipment challenges today. Low temperatures are affecting both tractors and trailers, which may lead to delays as units are cycled, boosted, or repaired. Teams are prioritizing equipment readiness to limit any disruption.
The immediate pressure point is a sharp spike in freight on the Calgary–Winnipeg lane as retail volumes surge.
We will continue to monitor conditions and adjust capacity as needed. If you have any questions, please contact your Account Manager and remember we’ve got you covered.
— UPDATE | Dec 11, 9:00am —
Dense fog and icy conditions around Regina have created some early morning delays. As the fog lifts and temperatures drop later this morning into early afternoon, we expect conditions to stabilize and operations to return to normal.
Our westbound backlog is on track to be cleared by tomorrow morning. Eastbound backlogs out of Edmonton and Regina are also expected to be resolved by tomorrow morning. Calgary eastbound remains our main focus today as we work to add capacity and reduce that backlog as quickly as possible.
We’ve got you covered. If you have any questions, please contact your Account Manager or call 1-800-GO-BISON.
— UPDATE | Dec 10, 6:00am —
Travel Not Recommended (TNR) advisories were lifted in Saskatchewan around 6:00 a.m., improving conditions enough for us to safely resume operations between Manitoba and Saskatchewan. We plan to run on all lanes beginning at 10:00 a.m. today. Manitoba highways remain poor but are improving as cleanup progresses.
We’re also watching a developing system expected to bring freezing rain and snow to eastern Alberta and western Saskatchewan tonight, which could affect evening and overnight departures. Additional updates will follow as conditions evolve.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to safe operations.
— UPDATED | Dec 9, 12:10pm CST —
I’ll start with some good news. Travel Not Recommended has been lifted between Regina and Calgary, and we’ll resume LCV operations on this lane beginning with our 12:00 p.m. departures and onward.
Now for the not-so-good news. Eastern Saskatchewan and Manitoba are now entering the severe weather phase, with conditions expected to deteriorate through the day. This will impact our ability to operate LCVs safely in those regions. For that reason, we will continue running single trailers between Manitoba and Saskatchewan and will adjust our plans as the system moves through.
We will share further updates as conditions evolve.

ORIGINAL POST
Freezing Rain – Southern Saskatchewan and Southwestern Manitoba
A broad area of freezing rain is moving through this morning and is expected to continue into Tuesday afternoon. Roads across key corridors are becoming icy and extremely slippery.
Rapid Temperature Drop – Southwestern Saskatchewan
Temperatures will fall from above freezing to well below freezing this afternoon. Standing water is expected to turn to ice quickly, leading to sudden and severe deterioration in road conditions.
Hazardous Morning Conditions – Eastern Alberta and Western Saskatchewan
Short bursts of heavy rain or flurries, combined with wind gusts up to 90 km/h, are already affecting visibility and vehicle stability. As temperatures fall, wet surfaces may freeze with little warning.
Key risks include:
- Hard to detect icy patches
- High-sided vehicles being pushed off course
- Rapidly reduced visibility in flurries
Snowfall Warning – Southeastern Saskatchewan and Southwestern Manitoba
From Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning, 10 to 20 cm of snow is forecast, with higher amounts possible in the Manitoba Parklands. Travel is expected to become increasingly difficult as conditions deteriorate into Wednesday.
Areas currently under weather warnings

Operational Impact
Given the combination of freezing rain, high winds, sudden icing, and significant snowfall, operating LCVs remains unsafe across all key corridors. As communicated earlier:
- All LCV operations remain suspended until conditions improve
- Available LCV drivers are being planned with single trailers
- We will reassess conditions again this afternoon to determine when LCV operations can safely resume
