Thursday May 28, 2009

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Thursday May 28, 2009 – Today, Bison Transport, a leader in North American Trucking Operations, celebrates 40 Years of Service to the Transportation Industry. Owned by Duncan M. Jessiman, Chairman of the Board, Bison Transport has become one of Canada's top transportation companies.

The business began in the late 1960's when Duncan Jessiman's father Peter started running a local cartage and warehouse operation in Winnipeg that became Jessiman Brothers Cartage Limited. Duncan soon learned the ropes of the family business and after graduating from the University of Manitoba, he followed his own entrepreneurial spirit by starting Bison Transport, a trucking company of his own in May 1969.

From the modest beginnings of an 18 truck and 32 employee operation, today Bison Transport operates as a highservice, dependable and value creating supply chain partner with more than 1050 tractors, 3000 trailers and almost 1,600 professional drivers and transportation staff. Bison operates terminals throughout Canada, and has operating divisions that include:

  • Dry Van Division
  • Long Combination Vehicle (LCV) Division
  • Refrigerated Division
  • ABL (Asset Based Logistics) Division
  • Intermodal Division
  • Warehousing & Distribution Division

Duncan M. Jessiman reflects on the company slogan, 'Bison cares... because we're people driven!' which says it all. "We've made a commitment to people in our mission, our culture and our daily processes, and we're proud to continue on that path."
