Bison was recognized multiple times at the Truckload Carriers Association's (TCA) Annual Convention Tuesday, earning awards for its safety record and driver programs.
Having received first place in the National Fleet Safety Awards in the over 100 million mile category, for the 11th consecutive time, Bison Transport moved forward to take the Grand Prize National Fleet Safety Award in the large carrier division for the 10th time, and seventh consecutive year. No other carrier has achieved this level of success in the more than 40-year history of the awards. Bison's extensive safety programs combined with a culture of caring, has produced an enviable safety record.
Named as one of North America's Best Fleets to Drive For, for the seventh time in the contest's nine-year history, Bison was selected at the convention as 2017's Overall Best Fleet to Drive For in the large carrier division for the third time in the last four years. "To claim the title of Overall Winner even once requires a strong combination of outstanding programs, high satisfaction levels, and great results in safety and retention," said John Lyboldt, TCA's president. "To do it three times is an unbelievable achievement that (Bison) should be very proud of."
Alongside Bison's organizational recognition, Murray Manuliak, a 15-year veteran of Bison's driving fleet, was recognized as the TCA's Company Driver of the Year. The contest recognizes the top Company Drivers and Owner Operators in the U.S. and Canada, who provide reliable and safe truck transportation in moving North America's goods. To win, a driver must demonstrate that they have operated in a safe manner on the public highways, helped to enhance the public image of the trucking industry and made positive contributions to their communities.
"It's about caring; demonstrating respect for your people by caring for their safety," says Garth Pitzel, Director of Safety and Driver Development about Bison's success. "It takes every driver and staff member supporting our culture of safety to obtain these incredible results by making the right decision each and every day so everyone gets home safe. Drivers, like Murray are great ambassadors for what we stand for."
TCA also announced its 2017-2018 chairman will be Rob Penner, president and chief executive officer at Bison Transport. In his chairman's acceptance speech, Penner stated that change is always on the trucking industry's horizon. He outlined his hope for TCA to move from debate to action by charting a path, detailing a strategy, and focusing on executing that strategy to get things done.
