Bison was recognized multiple times at the Truckload Carriers Association's (TCA) Annual Convention Tuesday evening, earning five awards for its safety record and driver programs.
After receiving first place in the National Fleet Safety Awards in the over 100 million mile category, for the 10th consecutive time, Bison Transport also received the Grand Prize National Fleet Safety Award in the large carrier division for the 9th time. Bison was found to have extensive safety programs with a company culture that emphasized safety and participation. No other carrier has achieved this level of success in the 40-year history of the awards.
In addition to the National Fleet Safety awards, Bison was recognized as 2016's Overall Best Fleet to Drive For in the large carrier division for the second time in the last three years. Carriers are nominated by drivers and evaluated across a broad range of categories reflecting current best practices in human resources. The 20 top finishers are identified as Best Fleets to Drive For and then divided in half according to size. The highest scoring fleet in each category is named overall winner. After being named as one of North America's Best Fleets to Drive For for the sixth time in the contest's eight-year history, Bison was selected as the Overall Best Fleet for its variety of driver-focused committees, including wellness and workflow efficiencies, which keep drivers involved and engaged.
"The Best Fleets winners raise the bar for all of us to reach for, and they provide a road map of success in building a sustainable workforce," said TCA President John Lyboldt.
Alongside the organizational recognition, Edward "Mark" Tricco, a 20-year veteran of Bison's driving fleet, was recognized as the TCA's Owner Operator of the Year. The contest recognizes the top Company Drivers and Owner Operators in the U.S. and Canada, who provide reliable and safe truck transportation in moving North America's goods. To win, a driver must demonstrate that they have operated in a safe manner on the public highways, helped to enhance the public image of the trucking industry and made positive contributions to their communities.
"This was an incredible night for Bison Transport, our people and Mark Tricco", said Garth Pitzel, Director of Safety and Driver Development at Bison. "Putting safety at the top of corporate objectives makes for a continuous improvement journey. Safety impacts the sustainability of our company and the livelihoods of people and families. With all these impacts understood, we are challenged and obligated each day to improve. Our people make us North America's Safest Fleet and a great place to work."
