If there is a name synonymous with professionalism, it would be Bison Transport’s George Sutherland. George has been named the 2014 Owner Operator of the Year by Truck News. He takes home $6,000, a diamond ring, gifts from sponsors as well as a trip to Toronto for him and his family.
The annual Owner Operator of the Year contest identifies and honors the best men and women traveling the
roads today and is given to an Owner Operator who exemplifies professionalism while also demonstrating a
clean driving record, a commitment to safety and a track record of community involvement. George stood out
amongst the contestants because of his industry advocacy, his attention to safety, his business acumen and his
willingness to help others when situations arise.
“It is Drivers like George that are the main component in Bison Transport having the reputation as being the
‘Safest Fleet in North America’ as named by the Truckload Carriers Association for the eighth time,” says Garth
Pitzel, Director of Safety and Driver Development. “George is an overwhelming supporter of the industry and we
are proud to have him as part of our team.”
George has logged more than 750,000 consecutive accident free miles with Bison as an Owner Operator.
George is an Ontario Trucking Association Road Knight and an ambassador for wellness at Bison Transport
having competed in the Truckload Carriers Association’s Weight Loss Showdown coming in second place overall
and top weight loss winner at Bison.
