At Bison, we strategically focus on efficiency and sustainability. We lead the industry in the use of Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs), also called Turnpike Doubles.

We can decrease Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emmissions by increasing our weight per mile, which can be done using LCVs. They consist of a tractor and two 53' trailers, providing more capacity to customers and an environmentally friendly transport solution. Using LCVs reduced our carbon footprint and emits less GHGs, which include methane, chlorofluorocarbons, and carbon dioxide.

Bison's LCV Division has grown significantly in Western Canada where they have become the transportation mode of choice for shippers moving freight in/through the Prairie Provinces.

What Makes our Equipment Efficient?

Smog Free Engine

New equipment meeting EPA07 regulations yields a 95% reduction in Particular Matter (PM) and Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) emissions.

Trailer Gap Fairings

Closes the gap between the tractor and trailer which improves aerodynamics and provides fuel savings of up to 2%.

Speed Limiter

Activated at 62 MPH, speed limiters reduce our GHG emissions by 2.7 million kg/year.

TrailerTails

These drag-reducing aerodynamic devices mount on the rear doors. The flaps open at speeds over 35mph and reduce fuel consumption by at least 5% at highway speeds.

Trailer Side Skirts

Aerodynamic side skirts mounted to our trailers help to lower wind resistance and reduce our GHG emissions by 4-7%.

Aerodynamics

Aerodynamically designed equipmwnt reduces our GHG emissions by an average of 2%

Auxiliary Power Unit (APU)

Provides power and keeps the truck warm/cool during downtime, without idling the truck's engine reducing GHG emissions by 5%.

Driver Training

Driver training and tracking of individual performance has improved fleet fuel economy by an average of 2%.

Low Rolling Resistance Tires

Our equipment utilizes Low Rolling Resistance tires, lowering our fuel consumption by 1.5-4.5%.
